Oh good. It’s not just me.
I was starting to wonder, as I frequently do, whether there’s just something wrong with me and my perception of things. The character of Sarah Walker and the treatment of her by many of the other characters has been something that I’ve tried and failed to express my frustration with, which only makes me more frustrated. Luckily for me, the internet is filled with people, and while many of them are obnoxious, brainless trolls, some of them are intelligent, clever and articulate.
I was reminded of this just in the nick by Revena, one of the latter variety, whose piece at The Hathor Legacy, Chuck vs. Professionalism, digs into the issue a bit more and says many of the things I wanted to say but couldn’t find the words for.

Poor Sarah came off in that episode as ridiculously emotional, with all new lows of incompetence in her job. Blah. I think she has potential to be a really interesting character, but it’s like she’s stuck in a romance while all the other characters are in a caper film.
You already commented about this on her blog, but I think this is the most important statement she makes. It’s not that Sarah gets half-naked all the time. Chuck is not unique in its objectification of women’s bodies. It’s that they have an opportunity to create a truly kick-ass character, whose talents might just lie beyond ass kicking, and they fail by making her emotional conflicts all about the men in her life.
